In ureterocutaneostomy patients, peristomal dermatitis can be a risk factor in terms of urinary infections and cause complications linked to skin irritation and/or urinary infections. However, in ureteroileocutaneostomy patients, urinary stasis causes a change to the bacterial flora with an increase in the number of micro-organisms and a predominance of anaerobic micro-organisms compared to a normal ileum. In addition, clinical and experimental studies have shown that the constant exposure to urine causes the reservoir mucosa to adapt the change, resulting in morphological and histochemical alterations, with a reduction in the length of the villi and signs of increased epithelial turnover. To prevent the risk of urinary infections, to reduce complications linked to skin irritation and limit the effects of urinary stasis, this study evaluated, especially in ureterocutaneostomy patients, the effects of an abundant intake of low in mineral content water and a mainly hyperproteic and hyperlipidic diet to acidify the urine in order to inhibit the development of organisms and promote the action of drugs, compared to a diet rich in milk and vegetable foods as an alkalinising diet, combined with controlled quantities of foods with a neutral ash content.
