On the basis of different methods in molecular biology, have been recently conducted studies on genetic polymorphisms as “biomarkers” of occupational, environmental or life style related diseases. Then, it is clear that the introduction of an alternative laboratory method has to be founded on classical standards: robustness and simplicity (cost-benefit ratio), reproducibility, and ripetibility[Saferstein, New Jersey 1987]. Starting from biological samples (blood and saliva) obtained from some workers in a South Italy petrochemical storage, the present study describes a simple method for the analysis of genetic polymorphisms on GSTT1 and GSTM1 loci. Preliminary data about this group of workers -occupationally exposed to petroleoum derivatives- are reported.
