A new three switch – three phase converter topology is presented in this paper suitable to feed different kinds of electric machines. A C-dump configuration is adopted where the dump capacitor voltage is controlled using a phase switch and exploiting a high frequency transformer. Such a converter has been developed with the aim to reduce the cost of low power drives on large scale productions, as it can be easily used to feed motor of different types (DC, DC brushless, AC induction, AC synchronous, Stepper, Switched Reluctance). As a result, a single converter production line could satisfy the demand of different applications in the fields of household appliances, air conditioning and automotive.
