The static and dynamic fracture of notched specimens in C30 steel was analysed using speckle techniques. The yield load and the fatigue limit were determined and directly related to the structure of the material. Further, a new non-destructive methodology was developed to rapidly define, in vivo, the degree of damage suffered by a mechanical component.
