Feline calicivirus (FCV) move in the feline population with a high incidence and has been recognized as one of the causative agents of a variety of diseases and syndromes which include upper respiratory tract disease, acute mouth ulcerations, chronic stomatitis and transient febrile 'limping'. Its evolution and existence of different antigenic strains cause important clinic implication in feline pathology and in disease control through the vaccination. The isolation and RT-PCR of five calicivirus strains isolated in Messina from symptomatic cats are reported. Viruses have been isolated from oral swabs, in the crandell feline kidney cell line (CRFK) in Dulbecco's minimal essential medium (DMEM). CPE was registered after 2-3 days and calicivirus was verified by RT-PCR. This work reinforce the account of pathogen supervising continuous through valid diagnostic test.
