Clinical judgment with a careful history and physical examination should generally suffice in the diagnosis of uncomplicated acute or subacute rhinosinusitis. Therefore in these cases confirmatory plain radiography is rarely necessary, given its low sensitivity. When symptoms are recurrent or refractory despite adequate treatment, further diagnostic evaluations may be indicated. In patients requiring sinusitis confirmation, simple axial and coronal computed tomography (CT) images can be adequate for screening purposes. In clinical practice, diagnosis of sinonasal polyposis is usually assessed by endoscopy but CT scan is frequently performed to help disease evaluation.

Abstract
Clinical judgment with a careful history and physical examination should generally suffice in the diagnosis of uncomplicated acute or subacute rhinosinusitis. Therefore in these cases confirmatory plain radiography is rarely necessary, given its low sensitivity. When symptoms are recurrent or refractory despite adequate treatment, further diagnostic evaluations may be indicated. In patients requiring sinusitis confirmation, simple axial and coronal computed tomography (CT) images can be adequate for screening purposes. In clinical practice, diagnosis of sinonasal polyposis is usually assessed by endoscopy but CT scan is frequently performed to help disease evaluation.Pubblicazioni consigliate
