Abstract

The December 28th 1908 earthquake was the strongest seismic event occurred in the Messina Straits (M=7.2; CPTI04). As for the seismic source many models are available in literature. They agree with the normal focal mechanism but they differ on orientation, position and dip angle. Since the studies on the source parameters are going on, we have employed the SEISRISK III code (Bender and Perkins, 1987) to calculate the probabilistic ground motion level resulting from the fault model proposed by Bottari et al., (1986). We used different time periods of the expected PGA values. The empirical relations available in literature (Pergalani et al., 2005) were adopted to evaluate the site amplification effects due to the superficial lithology of the investigated area. The obtained peak ground acceleration levels were converted into macroseismic intensities values by using empirical relationships (Wald et al., 1999; Gómez Capera et al., 2006). In order to identify the parameters of the seismo... - ISSN:
