One instrument used to assess individual differences in thinking styles (left or right) is SOLAT (Style of Learning and Thinking). The present work explores the psychometric properties of the Italian version of SOLAT, administered to 489 subjects aged from 21 to 31 years, 137 of which completed again the test 8 weeks later, producing high test-retest correlations. Factor analysis, classical reliability analysis and Rasch analysis validated the questionnaire, and suggested to discard the 6 less significant items. A new criterion of subject classification, based on the total score of the remaining 22 items, is proposed.

Abstract

One instrument used to assess individual differences in thinking styles (left or right) is SOLAT (Style of Learning and Thinking). The present work explores the psychometric properties of the Italian version of SOLAT, administered to 489 subjects aged from 21 to 31 years, 137 of which completed again the test 8 weeks later, producing high test-retest correlations. Factor analysis, classical reliability analysis and Rasch analysis validated the questionnaire, and suggested to discard the 6 less significant items. A new criterion of subject classification, based on the total score of the remaining 22 items, is proposed.
