This applies specifically to people suffering from chronic diseases, who are frequently hospitalized and receive continuing care for their irreversible condition. Among chronic diseases, end-stage renal disease is extremely interesting because it can be assessed transversely in different settings but also longitudinally over time, thus allowing adequate evaluation of quality of life.
