The photoprodn. of H2 by water photoelectrolysis or photoreforming of chems. present in waste streams from agro-food or agro-chem. prodn., such as dild. streams of ethanol, glycerol, etc. is a research area of current large interest to produce solar fuels and renewable energy. We discuss and compare here the performances of 2 types of titania-based catalysts: metal nanoparticle doped thin films prepd. by anodic oxidn. (characterized from an ordered array of TiO2 nanotubes) and core-shell copper-titania nanoparticles. Their performances in the photoprodn. of H2 and in photocurrent generation (upon visible light irradn.) are studied to derive some general conclusion regarding the reaction mechanism and role of the metal doping. Abstract
