The anal. of the kinetics of NO decompn. on Cu-ZSM-5 shows that the rate of conversion of NO to N2 has a reaction order higher than one with respect to the concn. of NO, on the contrary of literature results obtained in a more limited range of NO partial pressures. A kinetic model based on the reversible formation of mono- and di-nitrosyl species, according to IR data obtained after NO adsorption, fits well the exptl. data. Using the kinetic model the change of the specific activity of these samples (rate const. of NO depletion per mol of Cu ions) in the decompn. of NO is analyzed. Results indicate that the specific activity passes through a max. as a function of the degree of Cu ion-exchange. The max. in the specific activity is found for an exchange level slightly higher than 100%. The possible interpretation of this effect is discussed. [on SciFinder(R)]

Abstract

The anal. of the kinetics of NO decompn. on Cu-ZSM-5 shows that the rate of conversion of NO to N2 has a reaction order higher than one with respect to the concn. of NO, on the contrary of literature results obtained in a more limited range of NO partial pressures.
