In the framework of time domain parametric identification techniques, least square methods are to date one of the most utilized approaches. The basic idea of the least square method stays in the minimization of the so called penalty function representing the error squared between selected measured response parameters and the correspondent quantities determined through the study of a pertinent finite element model. In this paper, both time-domain deterministic and stochastic response has been used for defining a suitable penalty function. The standard bounded variables least square approach has been used as a vehicle for identifying selected structural parameters. In this context a computationally competitive procedure for determining pertinent sensitivity matrix has been proposed. Various numerical examples including ASCE benchmark show the effectiveness of the proposed method also for determining deteriorating structural parameters simulating damage.
