To define the biological activity of the differents part of Crataegus oxyachanta L. the effects on the heart rate and arterial blood pressure in normotansive and in DOCA hypertensive rats of preparations from shoots, leaves and flowers of this plant, collected in the same year and in the same region have been studied. The protective action against arrhythmias induced by aconitine, calcium chloridre and epinephrine-chloroform has also been valued. All of the tested preparations caused bradycardia, significative decrease of the arterial blood pressure, both in normotensive and in hypertensive rats and showed antiarrhythmic activity in all experimental models of arrhythmias. The effects of the shoots, leaves and flowers and those of their various extracts had different intensity. The prepartions have been administered, by gavage, at doses ralated to dried vegetable tissue (0.0125 g/kg; 0.0250 g/kg). The glycero-ethanolic macerate of the shoots showed the best overall activity, for its effects were stronger and also without side effects, at least at the used doses.
