This paper examines freight mode choice models, with particular regard to random utility disaggregate models. After a first section of the paper dedicate to a concise state of the art of the considered models, an investigation conducted for the CNR Progetto Finalizzato Trasporti 2 on the Italian market of freight transport is briefly described and a first descriptive analysis on the main characteristics of demand is reported. Results obtained for a set of mode choice models specified and calibrated on data set obtained from the above investigation are shown in the last part of the paper where the potentiality of such approach is shown in order to obtain useful indications for a better understanding the behaviour of the decision maker of the mode of transport.

Abstract
This paper examines freight mode choice models, with particular regard to random utility disaggregate models. After a first section of the paper dedicate to a concise state of the art of the considered models, an investigation conducted for the CNR Progetto Finalizzato Trasporti 2 on the Italian market of freight transport is briefly described and a first descriptive analysis on the main characteristics of demand is reported. Results obtained for a set of mode choice models specified and calibrated on data set obtained from the above investigation are shown in the last part of the paper where the potentiality of such approach is shown in order to obtain useful indications for a better understanding the behaviour of the decision maker of the mode of transport.Pubblicazioni consigliate
