Advancing CLIL (Content and Language Learning) in the 21st century classroom requires both advances in pedagogy as well as in technology. In this paper we thus provide a twofold perspective: pedagogical – we place and discuss CLIL education in the context of multiliteracy pedagogy, with a special focus on digital literacy; technological ‒ we discuss the development of LearnWeb2.0, a collaborative search-and-share environment for Web 2.0 resources, using an iterative and cyclic evaluation-driven design-based approach to research. Both aspects are brought together to develop a new model which integrates and makes connections between CLIL and the wider worlds of education, meaning-making and information technology more explicit, leading to an integrative model of CLIL.
