Abstract

(ex Introduction) "In what follows I will describe—by reference to loci such as the abovementioned, where transactions relating to books take place—how the dynamics of those transactions have changed since the end of the 1990s, entering places previously alien to them. The structure of the chapter will address the way how informal dynamics, and the itineraries they took in a number of both religious and secular settings I have investigated, have become legitimate because of the very presence, sometimes active, of those who were supposed to prevent those transactions from taking place. This eighteen years’ long multi-sited ethnography is based on fi eldwork and participant observation conducted in the Sicilian town of Messina and in its provincial area".
