The aim of this study is to evaluate the environmental profile of a charging station used to power eight electric bicycles during a lifetime of 15 years, through the application of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method. The analysis was carried out following a cradle-to-grave approach including the material and energy sources related to the whole life cycle of the charging station and of the electric bycicles. The study included four different phases: 1) production, 2) installation, 3) use and maintenance, and 4) end of life. The functional unit of one charging station installed in Bergen (Germany) and used for a lifetime of 15 years was selected to carry out the analysis. Results related to the fuctional unit show a value of 12,043.3 kg CO2 eq in terms of Climate Change and 208.9 GJ eq in terms of Energy Use.
