This contribution will try to give an insight into the subject of immigration with a particular focus on the role of prejudice and places affecting the integration process. The research started in September 2017, with a research group made of two assistants of mine, in Gioiosa Marea, a village of about 8’000 inhabitants in the Province of Messina, Sicily, on the southern shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The idea was to conduct field research on the accession of that Municipality to the Protection System for Asylum Seekers and Refugees, (Sprar), that is a service of the Ministry of the Interior to manage reception, assistance and integration projects of asylum seekers at the local level.

Abstract
