Abstract

Recalling the meaningfulness of the Greek term οἶκος – which notoriously means ‘home’ and more widely ‘environment where you live’ – we should think of eco-logy as an “analysis of the common house”, while economy should be “take care of its management”. Whether it’s the family or the entire planet, etymology places both dimen-sions in a project which involves all of us as ‘inhabitants’. As gests and not as hosts. The Encyclical Laudato Si’ (2015) is dedicated to attention to the global scenario that forces us to think of a common world, projecting and including a concern to bring the whole human family together to seek a sustainable and integral development. As a whole, it shows these assump-tions are far from obvious. This article attempts to read between the lines of the crucial issues addressed in the pontifical document, showing the contribution of the political philosophical approach to understanding the most pervasive dynamics that articulate the relationship of human coexistence.
