The Authors thought research for salmonellae in whole eggs would be useful, bearing in mind that the system of transmission of some of the most widespread serotypes (e.g.: S. enteritidis) make it a very topical matter. They examined 632 eggs, which came from several sales outlets in different areas of Messina. Salmonellae were not found in the samples examined, but there was a 16,14% positivity rate for other Enterobacteriaceae.
