Protection of the sea environment in new European legislative mesures

In the last few years European Community, always careful to problems of pollution and protection of waters and coasts dealt with attention maritime safety to reduce accident risks, pollution and safety of life at sea. Therefore the Regulation EC n. 1406/2002 established the European Maritime Safety Agency for the purpose of ensuring safety of Community shipping and community port, safety of passengers and crew. From the analysis of internal structure, functioning and new tasks points out the European Maritime Safety Agency is a very qualified body of the Community able to involve interests of the Commission, of the members States and civil society. Emsa provides technical assistance and high level abilities in maritime safety and prevention of pollution by ship from preparatory work for developing Community legislation to the effective implementation and evaluation the effectiveness of the measures in place.
