Abstract

When introducing the subject of tourism we refer at once to a complex and polyhedric fact, that the most complete analysis requires a wide perspective of reference. The fields of application for the tourist phenomenon are numerous, but what this study is turned to is the connection of the tourist phenomenon with the development and the growth of a territory. An interesting fact is tracing not only the narrow bond that can be established among territory and tourist activity, but also the relationship sometimes conflicted that can be established among the tourist phenomenon and the environmental resources that countersign the local reality. Planning the increase of this activity becomes here essential, to guarantee from there the maximum extender in an effective manner, and above all efficient in terms of supportability. Sustainability is by now an hinge concept in the field tourist because it foresees the need to an approach founded just on planning, in order to avoid that the development determines negative effects on the resources, that instead constitute the necessary base for maintaining longtime the same activity. What this treatment wants specifically consider is the possible reconversion of the currently deserted railway line Messina-Camaro-Gesso-Villafranca in a cycle-touring project and its relative benefits following the new Messina–Palermo line, the part of which we are interest in, goes through a tunnel whole. It is interesting to find out as the local territory can be considered as a strategic system, that allows you to create new forms of competition, based on the articulation of sustainable development. The history and cultural heritage of the territory represent the identity of a place and a community, so that, in this context, the valorization of the patrimony becomes an active factor for the protection of resources to which it is linked.
