This paper deals with congenitally blind people and in particular analyzes the development of their semantic and spatial representations. The principal purpose is to assess the role of the sight in developing these representations in order to investigate whether and to what extent the cognition is anchored with sensory-motor experience (especially with the sight). As confirmed by a few practical cases examined in an experimental survey, the sensory-motor experience plays a key role in the knowledge acquisition as argued by the theorists of embodiment, but it is not the only kind of experience involved in developing representations, and the language is a tangible example.

Abstract
This paper deals with congenitally blind people and in particular analyzes the development of their semantic and spatial representations. The principal purpose is to assess the role of the sight in developing these representations in order to investigate whether and to what extent the cognition is anchored with sensory-motor experience (especially with the sight). As confirmed by a few practical cases examined in an experimental survey, the sensory-motor experience plays a key role in the knowledge acquisition as argued by the theorists of embodiment, but it is not the only kind of experience involved in developing representations, and the language is a tangible example.Pubblicazioni consigliate
