Le retrovie italiane della guerra di Corfù (1716)

In this essay the intention is not to recall the evolution of the 1716 Corfu war; the aim is rather to look at the Italian zone be-hind the front of that war, with its material and ideological im-plications. The areas just behind the front of the war that started in the Ionian Islands are not only safe refuge locations, but also spots useful for troops and shipping movements, for supplies flows, for arms storages, and even for information obtaining and spreading. The rear bases are many, each one with its characteristic at the intersection between global history and local condition. There is a rear base also in the Corfu war, and it is composed by the ancient Italian States, beyond the Republic of Venice, sin-gled out directly in the assault carried by the Ottoman Empire. The essay examines the cases of Naples and Rome, showing what takes place, in the military campaign, in the Neapolitan and Southern Italian zone behind the Corfu front.
