Mathematics and play seem to be mutually exclusive activities. In this chapter we will try to argue on the contrary that teaching mathematics through play has many advantages. Starting from pedagogical practices of the Maria Montessori we'll see how the play can increase the child’s motivation to learn by providing sensible and enjoyable contexts, and by allowing children to direct their own learning. This hypothesis has been fully confirmed by recent neuroscientific research which allow us for the first time to watch the living mathematical mind at work.

Abstract
Mathematics and play seem to be mutually exclusive activities. In this chapter we will try to argue on the contrary that teaching mathematics through play has many advantages. Starting from pedagogical practices of the Maria Montessori we'll see how the play can increase the child’s motivation to learn by providing sensible and enjoyable contexts, and by allowing children to direct their own learning. This hypothesis has been fully confirmed by recent neuroscientific research which allow us for the first time to watch the living mathematical mind at work.File in questo prodotto:
