The paper addresses the problem of tech companies’ growing power in electoral campaigns. In fact, due to the large use of social platforms as an important source of information, users have been more easily manageable in their decisional process as electors thanks to advanced techniques such as micro-targeting. Political actors, on the other hand, have to respect social platforms’ rules in order to effectively take place to the political debate. In the conclusions the author outlines the various alternatives for increasingly urgent regulation, such as national regulation, tech companies’ self-regulation, supranational regulation and shared regulation.

Abstract
The paper addresses the problem of tech companies’ growing power in electoral campaigns. In fact, due to the large use of social platforms as an important source of information, users have been more easily manageable in their decisional process as electors thanks to advanced techniques such as micro-targeting. Political actors, on the other hand, have to respect social platforms’ rules in order to effectively take place to the political debate. In the conclusions the author outlines the various alternatives for increasingly urgent regulation, such as national regulation, tech companies’ self-regulation, supranational regulation and shared regulation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
