This work aims to relate the role of language in one of its most essential cog- nitive functions: the narrativity. This basic process will be related to narritive and spa- tial memory. Language allows us to build perceptual maps based on the experience of places. In addition to being a basic element of the cognitive experience, narrativity is the basis of the social construction of the identity of places as well as the collective representation of the urban network. Toponyms are examples of this and in particular, those used to identify a place connected to professions or traditions that have been lost over the years (Barilaro 2009) but still used although the streets or squares today have a different name. The cognitive performance of narrativity is revealed in the con- struction of these historical-experiential maps.
