In spite of the growing demand for broader language skills from European companies, the impulse towards multilingualism is still having difficulty taking off in professional environments, both public and private, in the Strait of Messina region. The demand for workers speaking several foreign languages remains confined to limited sectors, it is not often a prerequisite for employment, and linguistic diversity is practiced only within xenophone groups. In this situation, what can be the possibilities for exploiting language and linguistic skills? This paper aims to explore the situation through a personal experience.

Abstract
In spite of the growing demand for broader language skills from European companies, the impulse towards multilingualism is still having difficulty taking off in professional environments, both public and private, in the Strait of Messina region. The demand for workers speaking several foreign languages remains confined to limited sectors, it is not often a prerequisite for employment, and linguistic diversity is practiced only within xenophone groups. In this situation, what can be the possibilities for exploiting language and linguistic skills? This paper aims to explore the situation through a personal experience.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
