The debate on higher education in recent years continues to be the focus of scholars and politicians who, within the lines of the European democratization, are compelled to deal with a university that changes and moves towards the creation of a European area of education and research to give shape to a cultural, political and social and international unity.The Bologna Process, in which many European countries engaged in intergovernmental perspective, to work on trans-national objectives, seeks to harmonize and bring together the different research and teaching systems within a common framework (system based on three cycles, comparable degrees, increased mobility, etc.) sothat the university can actively contribute to the path of social modernization. The book focuses on the Italian case to better understand, in terms of cultural and administrative tools, those foundations that led to structural changes and the choices that have led to share with other countries a reform aimed at the progressive improvement of the quality and effectiveness of the higher education's systems. The various contributions examine from several points of view, the meaning of building a national university system closely coordinated and included in the European one able to positively connect social fabric, training, professionalism and research in order to understand the path taken and the system under creation, always keeping in mind that this transformation can only occur through the participation of all actors in the system and the relevant scientific community.

Abstract
