The essay focuses on the cultural cleavage that emerged in Tunisia after the 2010-2011 uprisings. Firstly, it chronicles the conflict opposing modernists to traditionalists, who uphold divergent notions of the sacred, during the transitional phase. Secondly, the post-revolutionary party system will be investigated so as to detect the leading outlooks on the ground. Finally, selected episodes of Tunisian modern history will enable to frame in the long-term the effectiveness of the cultural cleavage.
