This paper analyses the funerary monument of the praefectus fabrum Marcus Virtius Ceraunus, dis- covered near the bridge of San Marco in the Pellicano estate in 1826, a site located along the main route from Stabiae to Nuceria. The only remains survived today are three relief-decorated slabs, car- rying the inscription with the monument’s dedication. Is thus presented a critical overview on the chronological debate of these important findings, through stylistic and technical analysis of the slabs. As a result, are argued some hypotheses on its architectural typology and design, highlighting the similarities with the rich examples of funerary monuments dated to the last decades of Pompeii, com- paring their architectural features and the social milieu of the monuments’ owners.
