Uso de las tecnologías digitales en el estudio del desarrollo urbano histórico: el Río Turia y la ciudad de València

The analysis of the historical-urban evolution of a city is a process that often contains objective difficulties, often derived from the problem of finding historical information or from the complexity of identifying historical elements that for various reasons have been replaced and can no longer be distinguished in the places where they once were. However, thanks to new digital technologies, such as GIS. It is possible to analyse in a more precise and detailed way the transformations that have affected urban areas over the centuries. The study of the city of Valencia, and in particular of the River Turia, aims to be a practical example of how these technologies can be used to understand the urban evolution of an area particularly shaped by history, and where some of the most important urban transformations of the city have taken place over the centuries, some ancient, such as the construction and demolition of the historical bridges, and others more modern, such as the transformation of the riverbed into a linear park and the construction of the City of Sciences and Arts.
