This study investigates the influence of socio-environmental and managerial factors on labor productivity gaps in Italian manufacturing firms. Employing a multidisciplinary approach that integrates economic, managerial, and socio-environmental aspects, the research examines the effects of crime rates, organized crime, and research intensity on productivity. The findings highlight significant regional disparities, with crime and organized crime negatively impacting productivity, especially in Southern Italy and the islands. Conversely, innovation, research intensity, and export-driven strategies positively influence productivity in Northern and Central regions. The study emphasizes the need for targeted public policies, including investments in infrastructure, promotion of research and development, and measures to combat organized crime. These strategies are vital for fostering sustainable economic growth, reducing productivity gaps, and enhancing competitiveness across regions.
