This chapter explores Artificial Intelligence (AI) as both a liberating tool and a potential source of subjugation, critically examining its impact on human autonomy, ethics, and identity amid the technological shift of the fourth industrial revolution. AI's widespread integration into society reshapes human interactions with technology, necessitating a redefined ethical framework to address both its empowering and controlling aspects. AI, by commodifying human behavior and data, introduces an era where machine autonomy challenges human agency, requiring what the paper calls “digital wisdom” to guide responsible AI development aligned with human values. While AI can mimic cognitive processes, it lacks true understanding, intentionality, and ethical judgment, traits intrinsic to human intelligence. Consequently, framing AI as an extension of human abilities, rather than an autonomous entity, preserves human responsibility and dignity. Additionally, this chapter warns against AI's unchecked growth within capitalist frameworks, which could turn it from a tool of empowerment into a mechanism for control. It advocates for a new humanism in the AI age, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and respect for human uniqueness to prevent a reductionist view of humans as mere data within a digitally deterministic world.
