The Western world has seen an increase in the number of states that, through a variety of legislative procedures and policies, have enabled same-sex couples to obtain legal recognition for their relationships. This chapter mainly focuses on registered partnerships, providing an analysis of some interesting types of same-sex civil unions, and outlining both their key features and their differences from the institution of marriage. Furthermore, the ever-increasing possibility of unions between same-sex partners gives rises to delicate problems in private international law—problems that the legislators try to solve by adopting speci c con ict-of-law rules, which, in their turn, vary from one legal system to another. Therefore, the last section of the chapter presents a general comparison between certain rules of private international law concerning registered partnerships.

Abstract
Therefore, the last section of the chapter presents a general comparison between certain rules of private international law concerning registered partnerships.Pubblicazioni consigliate
