This paper traces a reading path aimed at exploring some characteristic traits of poem 64 through its reception in Late Antiquity. Within the methodological limits imposed by such an investigation, an attempt will be made to verify whether and how the complexity of poem 64 was read in the 4th-6th century poetry. First of all, it will be studied the incidence of the Catullan lexis level through the reuses of syntagms and forms of expression. Secondly, consideration will be given to cases of intertextual dialogue activated by a conscious allusion to Catullus’ text. And to conclude, it will be inquired the case of some allusive echoes that betray the reading of Poem 64 as a wedding song, giving reason to the title Epithalamium attested in some manuscripts.
