This research investigates the origins of the crime of robbery (bona vi rapta) in Roman law. By analyzing the relevant literature and examining Cicero’s Pro Tullio, the author concludes that robbery was not introduced by Lucullus via his well-known edict of 76 BC, but was instead the result of a subsequent praetorian edict.
