We present a methodology of damage detection based on variations in modal properties. The basic criterion is its simplicity of operation using widely available technologies. The method, which presupposes a linear behaviour of the system under investigation, is applied on simple plates, schematised using FE models. The models are validated experimentally through EMA with test specimens on which slots of different size and position have been cut. Damage is localised in the zone showing the highest modal shifts for eigenvalues when compared to those of the unsloted specimen.

Abstract
We present a methodology of damage detection based on variations in modal properties. The basic criterion is its simplicity of operation using widely available technologies. The method, which presupposes a linear behaviour of the system under investigation, is applied on simple plates, schematised using FE models. The models are validated experimentally through EMA with test specimens on which slots of different size and position have been cut. Damage is localised in the zone showing the highest modal shifts for eigenvalues when compared to those of the unsloted specimen.File in questo prodotto:
