In this paper the structural behaviour of two different kinds of polymeric foams, obtained from a polypropylene (EPP) and polyurethane (PUR) has been examined. For both typologies of materials, different values of the density have been considered. The main goal of this work is to analyse the energy absorption characteristic of polymeric foams. Both quasi-stati c and dynamic compression tests of foam samples along the axial direction have been conducted. The effect of the amount of air contained in the foams as well as the strain-rate on the stress-strain curves has been analysed. It was shown that the EPP foams are strongly influenced by the velocity of application of the load, while PUR foams seem to be only slightly affected by dynamic effects.

Abstract
In this paper the structural behaviour of two different kinds of polymeric foams, obtained from a polypropylene (EPP) and polyurethane (PUR) has been examined. For both typologies of materials, different values of the density have been considered. The main goal of this work is to analyse the energy absorption characteristic of polymeric foams. Both quasi-stati c and dynamic compression tests of foam samples along the axial direction have been conducted. The effect of the amount of air contained in the foams as well as the strain-rate on the stress-strain curves has been analysed. It was shown that the EPP foams are strongly influenced by the velocity of application of the load, while PUR foams seem to be only slightly affected by dynamic effects.Pubblicazioni consigliate
