This study is aimed to evaluate experimentally the behaviour after fracture consolidation of two different intramedullary gamma nail implants, having one (G1) and two (G2) distal screws, respectively. Nails have been implanted, using the conventional surgical technique, into standardized synthetic femurs, instrumented with strain gauges. Femoral head displacements have been measured by an optical laser sensor. In addition, a threedimensional finite element model, validated by comparison with the experimental results, has been developed to investigate different loading conditions. Localized contact between the nail tip and the femoral endosteum has been pointed out for the G2 gamma nail implant under simulated one legged stance of gait. In the proximal femur the behaviour of the two different implants is quite similar instead.

Abstract
In the proximal femur the behaviour of the two different implants is quite similar instead.Pubblicazioni consigliate
