Chlamidiosis is a disease of sheep characterized by abortion and infertility. The related economic losses lead to follow an early diagnosis and an infection monitoring especially in areas where rural economy is mainly based on sheep and goats breeding. The aim of the survey reported here was to evaluate the presence of antibody against Chlamydophila abortus in sheep breed in the province of Messina (Sicily). 210 sera samples, coming from 16 sheep farms, were screened for antibodies against C. abortus by an ELISA test (Civtest Ovis Chlamydia PS). 28 out of 210 (13.3 %) sera were positive and antibody presence increased significantly with age. Positive sheep were found in 12/16 (75 %) of the sampled farms with frequencies ranging from 6.2 % to 56.2 %. Our results describe a moderate and wide spread infection by C. abortus in the sampled sheep population.

Abstract
Our results describe a moderate and wide spread infection by C. abortus in the sampled sheep population.Pubblicazioni consigliate
