Granulosa cell tumour (GCT) is common in the bitch. It is assumed that the tumour arises from follicular granulosa cells, but the real histogenetic mechanisms are not completely understood. In a histological survey of 762 canine ovaries, 52 primary ovarian tumours were diagnosed, including 13 GCTs. Among these, 6 early tumours were found, 2 of which in course of ovarian remnant syndrome. In 2 cases the tumour displayed a pseudotubular arrangement, showing Sertoli-like cells which probably arose from the proliferation of granulosa cell islands (GCIs). In other 2 cases, the tumour developed in the wall of a follicular cyst. In the bitch, this ovarian pathologic condition could have a preneoplastic significance, being able to originate follicular GCTs.

Abstract
Granulosa cell tumour (GCT) is common in the bitch. It is assumed that the tumour arises from follicular granulosa cells, but the real histogenetic mechanisms are not completely understood. In 2 cases the tumour displayed a pseudotubular arrangement, showing Sertoli-like cells which probably arose from the proliferation of granulosa cell islands (GCIs). In other 2 cases, the tumour developed in the wall of a follicular cyst. In the bitch, this ovarian pathologic condition could have a preneoplastic significance, being able to originate follicular GCTs.Pubblicazioni consigliate
