The aim of this paper is to evaluate if gross examination is able to distinguish among physiological and pathological luteal structure. 305 luteal structure were collected from ovary of beef cows. 209 compat corpora lutea were grouped as follow: 9% in stage I, 24% in stage II, 47% in stage III and 20% in stage IV, alco according to progesterone values. A double corpus luteum was found. 58 cavitary corpora lutea were recognized for the increased size and a small ovulation papilla. 6 persistent corpora lutea were associated to pyometra. 32 luteal cyst were distinguishable for the absence of the papilla. Gross evaluation of luteal structures allows to evaluate the phase of the oestrus cycle and to recognize pathological structures.

Abstract
Gross evaluation of luteal structures allows to evaluate the phase of the oestrus cycle and to recognize pathological structures.Pubblicazioni consigliate
