Abstract

We analyzed all the information available on the main earthquakes that occurred in the Calabrian Arc in the last two centuries with the purpose of estimating the ground acceleration fields produced in several towns for interpretation of the macroseismic data reported in the literature. We tentatively estimated the amplification factors due to surface lithology using the frequency-amplification relationships reported in the literature for different S-wave velocities. The ground acceleration data have in turn been converted into intensity values through standard empirical relations. Our findings confirm that site amplifications strongly influence the PGAvalues and further remark that additional multidisciplinary analyses are needed for perfectioning the hazard scenarios. - ISSN: ISSN 1972-1552
