In this work we reported the results of a study in which apoptotic cell death caused by Bovine Herpesvirus-4 (BoHV-4) in the Bovine Embrional Kidney (BEK) cell line was analyzed. The phenomenon was confirmed using four different techniques. Apoptosis induced by BoHV-4 was inhibited by an UV-treatment, which completely abrogated infectivity and was characterized by expression of viral antigens in the infected cells. Virus-induced apoptosis was associated with a down-regulation of Bcl-2 expression and an up-regulation of Cpp32 activity
