This paper describe a methodology for the study of the transportation of dangerous goods inside tunnels and its application to a road tunnel included in the Strait of Messina bridge project. A great attention should be paid to accidental events simulation, and the use of CFD codes should be required for consequence assessment. However, in this first attempt to quantify transport risk in road tunnels, only transport of flammable liquids has been taken into account and a simplified approach to consequence assessment has been used. This application, though simple, is able to demonstrate that the methodology, well assessed for transport outside tunnels, is suitable to be applied also in complex and critical situation.
