Between the citrus fruits, the Pumelo – native of South East Asia – is the biggest. It is grown in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaya and some parts of U.S., China, Israel and Japan also. You can find Pumelo in Italy, in some regions with mild climate, especially in Sicily, Sardinia and Calabria. Pumelo is mostly used as fresh fruit but it is also employed for sweets, marmalade and juices preparation. It is furthermore used for traditional medicines, particularly in the Far East. Target of this work is the study about Pumelo essential oil extracted from fresh fruits grown in Calabria. The cool oil extraction has been effected with a manual method. However our results are not in agreement with others effected on volatile fraction of varieties of the same kind cultivated in eastern countries, Kenya and Tunisia. Instead these results are concordant with previous studies effected on essential oil drawn from Sicilian fruits.
