This study shows the results of the activities at the Department of health Monitoring of a city of South Italy in a population of municipal police officers, especially with regard to assessment of suitability and to health reasons which have determined them. Results of data analysis provided evidence a large number of restrictions caused by disorders of the spinal column. Specifically as many as 46% of the sample reported limitations in carrying out their job and that 80% of subjects were suffering from limited lumbosacral disc herniations. This fact, with striking proportions, must pay attention to the specific risks of work to introduce appropriates responses to the reduction of occupational specific risks.
