OSAS in elderly is diffuse less serious than in younger adults. Quality of life is compromised due to excessive daytime somnolence (EDS) and diminished social interactions. However major determinants of OSAS impact are the presence of comorbidities such as cardio and cerebro vascular disorders , use of psychotropic drugs and oxygen desaturation values. Also dependant nicturia effects, quality of sleep and indirectly quality of life. In comparison with younger OSAS patients, older patients demonstrate cognitive deterioration with MMSE decline which appears to be linked to EDS rather than RDI. However a decrement in executive functions and praxic abilities is more sustained by chronic hypoxia rather than EDS. Continuous positive air pressure (CPAP) improves quality of life and vigilance in these patients and reduces the burden of co-morbidities and cardiovascular risk.

Abstract
Continuous positive air pressure (CPAP) improves quality of life and vigilance in these patients and reduces the burden of co-morbidities and cardiovascular risk.Pubblicazioni consigliate
