This study has the aim to exploit the Opuntia ficus indica (L.) Mill. culture widespread in Sicily, also with the employment of the waste matter (cladodes and unmarketable fruits). Therefore a biological screening on lopping cladodes was performed. Homogenized and lyophilized cladodes of O. ficus indica, deprived of epidermis and glochides, show hypocholesterolemic, antiinflammatory, antiulcer and cicatrizant activity.
